About Newman L.P. School

അരനൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ചരിത്രം ഉറങ്ങുന്ന ഇടുക്കി എൽ.പി. സ്കൂളിന്റെ ആരംഭം ഒരു ദൈവാനുഗ്രഹമാണ്. ഇടുക്കി ഡാമിന്റെ നിർമ്മാണത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് 1973-ൽ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം ആവശ്യമെന്ന ജനതയുടെ പ്രാർത്ഥന കേട്ടു സി.എം.സി. സഭയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ സ്കൂൾ പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ആദ്യം ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മീഡിയം നഴ്സറി ക്ലാസ് ആരംഭിച്ചെങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് നാട്ടുകാരുടെ ആവശ്യപ്രകാരം മലയാളം മീഡിയം എൽ.പി. സ്കൂളായി വികസിച്ചു. തുടക്കത്തിൽ ഇടുക്കി പള്ളിയിൽ ക്ലാസുകൾ നടത്തി, പിന്നീട് സ്‌കൂൾ കെട്ടിടം ബഹുമാനപ്പെട്ട അച്ചന്മാരുടെയും സിസ്റ്റേഴ്‌സിൻറെയും സഹകരണത്താൽ നിർമിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. കാലത്തിന്റെയും കാലാവസ്ഥയുടെയും വെല്ലുവിളികളെ അതിജീവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഈ വിദ്യാലയത്തിന്റെ യാത്ര സമ്പന്നമായ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെയും ത്യാഗങ്ങളുടെയും തെളിവാണ്. ഇന്ന്, ഈ വിദ്യാലയം അക്ഷരലോകത്ത് ഇടുക്കിയുടെ അതിഥിയായി പത്തൊൻപതാം പടവിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

Founding Story & Heritage

The history of Newman L.P. School, Idukki, began in 1973 amidst the massive transformation brought by the construction of the iconic Idukki Arch Dam. As migrant workers and officials from different parts of the state and abroad settled nearby, the lack of educational facilities prompted the C.M.C. sisters to initiate schooling. Despite limited infrastructure and difficult terrain, the school was launched with nursery and primary classes, initially in English medium. Over time, it evolved into a Malayalam medium aided school. Dedicated sisters, teachers, and clergy, including Rev. Fr. Thomas Malekkudy, played key roles in constructing the school and nurturing generations of students. This institution stands today as a monument to divine providence, hard work, and visionary leadership.
